Day 1: ADDIS ABABA – LALIBELA

After early breakfast, take your flight to Lalibela. After lunch visit the First Cluster of the 11-Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela. Overnight stay in a hotel.

 

Day 2: FULL DAY IN LALIBELA

In the morning, drive to the outskirt of the city to visit Yimrehane Kristos Church, an exquisite churchwhose interior decoration is famous for a masterpiece of Axumite wood and stone construction. Afterlunch, visit the Second Cluster of the 11-Rock Hewn Churches of Lalibela. Overnight stay in a hotel.

 

Day 3: LALIBELA - ADDIS ABABA – DEPARTURE

After breakfast, take your flight back to Addis Ababa. After lunch do a brief sightseeing tour of the city which includes the Ethnological Museum and the National Museum. In the early hours of the evening, be transferred to the airport for your return flight back to home.

  • Lalibela is a small town in the Amhara region of Ethiopia, located about 700 kilometers north of the capital city, Addis Ababa. It is famous for its rock-cut churches, which were built in the 12th century during the reign of King Lalibela.

    There are 11 churches in Lalibela, all of which are carved out of solid rock and are considered masterpieces of engineering and architecture. The churches are arranged in two groups, with the northern group containing six churches and the southern group containing five churches. The churches are connected by a series of tunnels and trenches, and each one is unique in its design and decoration.

    The churches of Lalibela are considered one of the most important pilgrimage sites for Ethiopian Orthodox Christians, and they are also a popular tourist attraction. In 1978, they were declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

    Lalibela is also home to a vibrant local community, with colorful markets, traditional houses, and a rich cultural heritage. The town is surrounded by stunning natural landscapes, including rugged mountains and fertile valleys, and is a popular starting point for hiking and trekking expeditions.
